The
baboon is the largest of all the Old World monkeys. They live in
groups of between 10 and 100, although usually about 40 stay together
throughout their lives. They stick very close together for safety,
and no baboon wanders very far from the group at any time. Each
group of baboons has a dominant male, who makes all of the decisions
and generally looks after the others.
Baboons wander
the African plains, feeding on plants, buds, and fruit. They often
stay close to where gazelle's are grazing, each species of animal
alerting the other if danger is near.
